Helpful Hints for the Clawbot Build

Gateway to Technology Commercial

As a reward for watching the commercial above, you are going to be allowed to do your first Gateway to Technology engineering project, a backpack tag.  You are going to design and create a laser etched backpack tag.  They are yours to keep and you can make them for yourself or give them as a gift to someone else - it is totally up to you.

Step 1 - Go back to your class to work on this project, or you can finish it up from home - there is no rush, please take your time to do an awesome job the first time.

Step 2 - Watch the first video below, there are 2 more at the very bottom that will talk about how to actually get your work to the laser - the first is just on how to get your image and text together.


The steps below will show you what to do, but do not need to be done right now

Step 3 - Log into your Google Drive 
If you do not already know, your username is your student ID# followed by @stu.sandi.net - so student 123456 would be 123456@stu.sandi.net

Step 4 - Create a Google doc where you can create your backpack tag.

Step 5 - Find an image that you would like to etch onto your backpack tag and add it to the tag you have been assigned. I would recommend you use "black and white" or "coloring book" in your search for images.  

Step 6 - Use the snipping tool to add the image to your Google doc.

Step 7 - Use the insert text feature to add any initials or words that you would like to add. Try to make the font so the words are between half the width of your image and the whole width of your image.

Step 7 - When you are done with your design - it is time for you to print.  Be thinking about the color of tag you would like and share your Google doc with me - Craig Johnson.  

Step 8 - Get your teacher's permission to leave class and come on back to room 813. You may also stop by before school or during lunch if you would like.  Mr. Johnson will be there to help with the final details to make sure everything goes as planned, but you have to do everything yourself.  

If something goes wrong, you can always use the back side of your tag, but if you do everything correctly the first time, the back of your tag may be used for another print as a bonus for following all of the directions.
